Mahindra Thar OG Launched at ₹10.32 Lakh

Mahindra has officially launched the new Thar OG in India, bringing a major update to its popular three-door lifestyle SUV. The new model starts at an introductory price of ₹10.32 lakh (ex-showroom) and retains the familiar three-door design while receiving changes to its platform, suspension, engines, safety equipment and exterior styling.

The Thar OG succeeds the three-door Thar that was introduced in 2020. Mahindra has also confirmed that customer deliveries of the new SUV will begin from October 11, 2026.

Thar OG Price and Variants

The new Thar OG is available in three variants: AXT, LXT and ZXT. The entry-level AXT variant starts at ₹10.32 lakh, while the range-topping ZXT variant goes up to ₹18.99 lakh, with prices being introductory and ex-showroom.

The AXT variant is offered with the 1.5-litre diesel engine and manual transmission in a rear-wheel-drive configuration. Higher variants get additional engine, transmission and drivetrain combinations, including four-wheel drive.

New Platform and Suspension

One of the biggest changes is underneath the body. The Thar OG is built on Mahindra's M_Glyde 4G platform, which the company says offers increased structural stiffness compared with the previous setup.

Mahindra has also introduced its DAVINCI damping technology along with an updated suspension setup. The company says these changes are aimed at improving ride quality while maintaining the SUV's off-road capability.

The SUV also gets an electric power steering system, replacing the hydraulic setup used previously.

More Powerful Engine Options

The Thar OG continues with three engine choices: a 1.5-litre diesel, 2.2-litre diesel and 2.0-litre turbo-petrol.

The larger diesel engine is now also available with a rear-wheel-drive configuration, expanding the choice for customers who do not require four-wheel drive. The larger engines are also available with automatic transmission options.

The engine lineup includes:

  • 1.5-litre diesel

  • 2.2-litre mHawk diesel

  • 2.0-litre mStallion turbo-petrol

Depending on the variant and engine, buyers can choose between manual and automatic transmissions as well as rear-wheel drive or four-wheel drive.

Exterior Design Updates

The overall boxy silhouette of the Thar remains familiar, but Mahindra has introduced several visual changes.

The front gets a new grille and redesigned bumpers, while the SUV now features LED lighting elements and LED fog lamps with cornering functionality. New R19 alloy wheels are also available on higher variants.

At the rear, the Thar OG receives slimmer LED tail lamps and a redesigned bumper. Mahindra has also introduced two new exterior colours: Artemis Silver and Jeans Blue.

More Features Inside the Cabin

The interior continues with the upright dashboard and familiar rugged design, but the Thar OG gets additional equipment and comfort upgrades.

The SUV now features Truffle Brown leatherette upholstery, while rear passengers get a soft armrest with integrated cupholders. Other available features include a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, cruise control and a wireless charger.

The updated model also gets drive modes including Sand, Snow and Mud, adding more flexibility for different driving conditions.

Six Airbags and Additional Safety Features

Safety has also received significant attention in the Thar OG.

Mahindra has equipped the SUV with six airbags, including four head-pelvis-thorax-shoulder airbags for front and rear passenger protection. The SUV also gets all-wheel disc brakes and front parking sensors.

Other safety and driver-assistance features include electronic stability control, rear parking sensors, hill-hold assist, hill-descent control, tyre-pressure monitoring and a rear-view camera.

When Will Thar OG Deliveries Start?

Mahindra has confirmed that deliveries of the new Thar OG will begin from October 11, 2026. The introductory pricing is applicable for deliveries until November 30, 2026, according to Mahindra's launch announcement.

With the Thar OG, Mahindra has kept the familiar three-door format while making changes across the platform, suspension, powertrain, safety equipment and features.
