Czechia vs England: Gordon and Kane Fire England to 2-0 Nations League Win
England secured their first victory of the 2026/27 UEFA Nations League with a 2-0 win over Czechia at the Fortuna Arena in Prague on September 29.
Anthony Gordon and Harry Kane scored in the second half after Czechia had been reduced to 10 players before the interval. The result gave Thomas Tuchel's side their first three points in Group A3 after their opening-day defeat to Spain.
Pavel Šulc sent off as Czechia reduced to 10
Czechia started positively but were reduced to 10 men midway through the first half.
Pavel Šulc was shown a red card following a VAR review for a challenge on England midfielder Elliot Anderson. England subsequently had a numerical advantage for most of the match.
Despite the advantage, England could not find a breakthrough before halftime. Morgan Rogers struck the post, while Czech goalkeeper Matěj Kovář also made a notable save to deny Kane.
Anthony Gordon breaks the deadlock
England finally opened the scoring shortly after the restart.
Trent Alexander-Arnold delivered a cross from the right, and Anthony Gordon moved into position to head the ball into the bottom corner.
It was Gordon's third goal in his last three appearances for England, continuing his recent run of international goals.
The goal also marked a notable contribution from Alexander-Arnold, who was making his first England start in almost two years, according to England Football.
Harry Kane doubles England's lead
England captain Harry Kane then made it 2-0.
The striker reacted quickly to a loose ball and finished to give England a two-goal cushion in Prague.
Kane's goal effectively settled the match as England maintained control against the 10-man Czech side.
England get their Nations League campaign moving
The victory was particularly important for England after their opening Group A3 match ended in a 3-2 defeat to Spain at Wembley on September 26.
The three points against Czechia put England on the board in Group A3, while Spain also won on Matchday 2, defeating Croatia 4-1.
England's next Nations League fixture is against Croatia on October 3.
Alex Scott makes England debut
The match also saw Alex Scott make his senior England debut.
The midfielder came on as a 70th-minute substitute in Prague. England Football reported that Scott became the 1,301st player to represent the England men's senior team.
For Scott, the appearance marked the fulfilment of a long-held ambition to represent England at senior level.
What the Czechia vs England result means
England leave Prague with three points after a match in which their numerical advantage ultimately proved decisive.
Gordon's headed finish broke Czechia's resistance early in the second half, while Kane's goal provided the final margin as England recorded a 2-0 away victory.
The result gives Tuchel's team momentum heading into their next Group A3 fixture against Croatia, while Czechia will face Spain next on October 3.
